Sarah Cavalieri (b. North Carolina 1984) is a multi-media artist living and working in Detroit, MI. Her current artistic pursuits include drawing, painting, and screen-printing. In her works fantastical narratives creep from semi-random ink blots, like asymmetrical Rorschach tests, then are solidified and smoothed in graphite renderings. Fully leaning into pareidolia (a psychological phenomenon in which human brains recognize familiar patterns or shapes in random or vague stimuli), the works dive into themes of desire, death, and escapism from a deeply and darkly feminine perspective. Inspired by our natural world, realms imagined, and societal pressures, these creations often straddle the line between the beautiful and the grotesque.
